August was a slow month with the primary elections on August 5. We had only four registration events and one training with new and returning volunteers.
Lynden Library asked us to have a question-and-answer time with their book club members. It was a small group; we had a good discussion and questions were answered about voting and misinformation clarified. Afterwards we set up in the hall and provided information and answered questions about voting from patrons coming to the library.
It appears Whatcom residents want to be active voters and are registering or updating addresses on their own, thanks to the online sites like VoteWA.gov.
We have registration events scheduled at all four of our institutions of higher education in September and October. Since high schools are now in session, registration events will be scheduled.
Bellingham Senior Center has asked us to table at an event where they are hosting candidates in September.
On September 16, National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) we will be downtown Bellingham to register voters and remind them of the upcoming November 4 election.
